Team Laura
My name is Laura Fletcher. I live in Leachville with my husband, Michael. We have a daughter who lives in Starkville. My friends, family, and fur babies are my everything.
I am a three time cervical cancer survivor. I was first diagnosed in 2008, six months after losing my Daddy to metastatic renal cancer. I have endured two reoccurrences, one in 2010 and then again in 2014. My treatment has included major surgeries, internal and external radiation, chemotherapy, and so many hospitalizations that I have actually lost count. When I was going through radiation therapy, my radiologic oncologist told me to remember that radiation is the gift that keeps on giving. I eventually realized what he was talking about. In 2016, I had my left kidney removed due to damage from prior radiation treatment. My body has been severely damaged by my cancer and the brutal treatment. Every day is not easy, but I continue to fight every day.
In 2023, Brice Hicks, who is the founder of Cooking For The Cure, surprised me by changing the name of the organization to the Laura Fletcher Cooking For A Cure. Seeing my name on all the signs and banners is a feeling like no other. I could not be more proud or honored to be a part of this organization and the people involved with it. Since my first diagnosis, all I have ever wanted to do is help and advocate for cancer patients in hopes that no one has to go through what I have been through. Cancer is a horrible disease, and hopefully we one day will have a cure. But, until then we have to continue the good fight.
There is always something good that comes from bad…. My story is a rough one, but it has given me the opportunity to help and inspire people. Look for the good in every day!
Love you more.
